As Michael Jordan delivered a pitch-perfect eulogy to the late Kobe Bryant on Monday afternoon, rivers of tears streamed down his face. And no one could blame him for that.
But in light of his last viral weeping, which spawned the ubiquitous 'Crying Jordan' meme, Jordan decided to get out in front of the jokes:
"Now he's got me — I'll have to look at another crying meme for the next... I told my wife I wasn't gonna do this because I didn't want to see that for the next three or four years," Jordan said, eliciting big laughs. "But that is what Kobe Bryant does to me."
Surely, NBA Twitter would have cut him some slack this time. But it hit home as a moment of pure comic relief (and epic fourth-wall shattering) amid the rawest public display of remembrance to Bryant, to date.
