In a recent interview on Sirius XM Radio, former Bulls and current Pistons point guard Derrick Rose discussed how winning a championship is still his ultimate goal before his career is all said and done.
"While I'm in the game...I wanna win a championship that's what I really wanna do.
"I got all the accolades that I wanted, now it's time for me to really get the one that I really, really want."
Rose signed a two-year, $15 million deal with Detroit this offseason, fresh off of a productive 2018-19 season in which he averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The 51 games Rose played last season were the most games he has appeared in since his lone year with the Knicks in the 2016-17 season.
A healthy and motivated Rose will be hoping to help the Pistons make back-to-back to trips to the postseason, a strong possibility in a new-look Eastern Conference.
Last season was Dwane Casey's first as head coach in Detroit and Rose will add a strong scoring presence to the Pistons backcourt, which averaged a combined 24.3 points per game in '18-'19 between starter Reggie Jackson and backup Ish Smith.
With Smith having since departed to the Washington Wizards, Rose will likely slide into the sixth man spot for the Pistons and he sincerely believes they have enough to make a run in Eastern Conference.
"With Detroit, I feel like we have a great chance with being in the East. We have two great bigs, a great team, you never know."
NBA Twitter as a whole was mixed on Rose's statement, as there is still a ton of belief in Rose's ability but it is pretty hard to wrap your head around the Pistons winning a title after getting swept out of the playoffs in the first round last season. The closest Rose ever got to winning an NBA Championship was in his MVP season in 2010-11, when the Bulls lost in five games to the LeBron James-led Miami Heat.
Several injuries and several teams later, many people believe the idea of Rose as a championship-level player is done, but don't tell that to Derrick Rose.
