Amid a series of franchise-altering trades, the Cubs sent outfielder Jake Marisnick to the San Diego Padres shortly before Friday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
In exchange for Marisnick, the Cubs acquired right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza. The 23-year-old was San Diego's No. 9 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
The Marisnick trade was the Cubs' fourth of Friday afternoon, following Craig Kimbrel (White Sox), Javy Báez (Mets) and Kris Bryant (Giants).

And, of course, the Cubs traded Anthony Rizzo (Yankees) and Ryan Tepera (White Sox) on Thursday, and Joc Pederson (Braves) and Andrew Chafin (A's) earlier this month.
Marisnick joined the Cubs on a one-year deal last winter. He's a plus defender in the outfield capable of playing all three positions. He's also a threat on the bases.
Marisnick hit .227/.294/.438 in 65 games this season, missing time earlier this season with a hamstring strain.
Espinoza has a 5.09 ERA in 12 starts in advanced-A this season. He holds a 3.59 ERA in 52 career minor-league appearances (51 starts).
